"Each of the women recognized had an amazing story and journey that led them to the work that they are doing here in Milwaukee. Which was so inspiring. And each of them when they accepted their awards offered a word of encouragement and some even shed tears when they shared their testimonies with the audience.
What impressed me so much about this event was its sincerity. It was clear to me that this event was birthed from someone’s heart and sincere desire to uplift girls and women. I was also impressed with the fact that their sponsors were small local businesses and individuals who contributed to make sure the event costs were covered. The venue and decorations were beautiful along with all the guests. To read her full article click here.
This invaluable organization is an essential part of the Milwaukee
community and the larger community of individuals concerned with the psychological and emotional well being of young girls. This organization offers a unique approach to increasing the self esteem of young girls and women throughout the community. Having had the opportunity to work closely with these talented and inspirational women during the planning and implementation of the UW-Milwaukee My Sista’s KeepHer: Girls Empowerment Summit, we had the chance to witness firsthand not only the unique use of self expression and writing to deal with challenging issues and experiences, but the passion these ladies have for girls empowerment and healing. Throughout the workshops, Tina, Shelly, and their My Sista’s KeepHer Team quickly connected with the 100+ middle school and high school girls in attendance and assisted them to work through—or write through—a myriad of challenging experiences, emotions, and truths. What many deem to be a difficult and challenging task was done effortlessly by these ladies. Candidly, reading the evaluations submitted by the girls is, to us, the greatest testimony
to the amazing work My Sista’s KeepHer is doing in the community.
My level of appreciation is through the roof. I want to give a special shout out to Kashunda Brown for being there for me when nobody else would. I can't put into words how I feel so I'll just say YOU DID THAT Kashunda, Tina & Shelly! All 3 of these beautiful women deserve the world and more. Ya'll probably don't know how much ya'll helped me out and how much of an impact ya'll have on my life. I'm sorry, I have a big headache but I just wanted to end my night thanking ya'll!-Lanikqua
