Each year we host three events to reward our students for opening up, facing their truths & sharing their stories. Each event is free to MSK participants.
The Mother-Daughter Pajama Party is intended to nurture the first relationship known to us—that between mother and child. The purpose of this event is to restore, strengthen, and promote healthy mother-daughter relationships. In some cases this relationship is strong and in others it is damaged. Either way this event will be life-changing for those who are selected. Daughters must write an essay, letter or poem explaining why they want to be a part of this incentive (500-word maximum). Remember this is a contest. My Sista’s KeepHer will select girls based on of their entry. CLICK HERE TO APPLY
The Dream Big Spa Day is intended to promote positive self-esteem. Vendors volunteer their services, which include manicure, pedicure, facials and massages for all students. Several students from each school are selected based upon their behavior as it relates to our principal, Sistahood is Love and respect for all women.
Our F.I.R.E. Awards (Females In Recognition of Excellence) became a vision, as founder, Tina Nixon watched Black Girls Rock several years ago. Instead of waiting to be on a stage with other phenomenal women she decided to create a stage for phenomenal women, both students and adults, to be recognized in seven different categories. This red carpet event is so big that it needs its own tab. CLICK HERE FOR NOMINATION FORM
Everything we do is about the experience and the lasting impression it leaves on those who attend. It is deliberately designed to teach young ladies that they matter. We remind them that they are not their experiences. We erase the word victim and replace it with VICTOR, SURVIVOR, TEACHER, INSPIRATION AND MORE! We have captured several moments that highlight the many experiences students have as a part of MSK.
